Ciao Italia!

We are finally here! It was a long time getting here, but we made it. Before we even left Detroit, we had a story to tell! We were both starving when we got to the airport. We had only about 45 min. until our flight to Paris left, and we decided that a great last meal before leaving the country would be to split a hani at National Coney Island. So we ate quickly and then rushed to our plane. By the time we got to the gate, we heard our names being called on the speaker. We were the last ones to board the plane! Whew!!! Glad we made it! And, yes, it was worth every bite!

Our flight was very good and went quickly. Every passenger had his/her own TV set to watch movies, play games, listen to music, or watch popular TV shows. It kept us busy. Paris was crazy. We had to actually leave the airport and go to a different terminal where we had to stand in line again to go through security, etc. We thought we might miss our flight out! Luckly, our first flight landed a bit early and the second flight was delayed, so we made it just fine.

When we arrived in Rome and as we began our travels in Italy (trying to figure out where to go, what platform to go to for what train, what certain signs meant, etc.), we realized how uncomfortable it can be to be a tourist in a country where you do not speak the language. I forgot how humbling this can be!! I guess I thought since I had been here before that it would be easier than before, but it was not so. I guess we had some advantage since I recognized some places and some words, but overall, it was still very difficult. Already today, we were in the wrong train car and in the wrong seats, and then another time on the wrong train! A young Italian guy heard Ed and I talking about going to Sorrento, and he came up to us and told us in Italian that this train did not go to Sorrento and pointed to the map. He told us the correct platform, we quickly thanked him, and rushed off the train before it was too late. It took much longer than we anticipated to get here, so we are so glad to finally be settled somewhere for now.

We just finished having a wonderful dinner at Hotel Il Nido, where we are staying in Sorrento. The view from the room is spectacular. We ate on the restaurant belcony, enjoying the wonderful nightime view for the city lights and the sea. We are exhausted, though, and must get some good sleep. The hotel is really great and helpful. Tomorrow we are looking forward to exploring the Amalfi coast, maybe going to Capri, and hopefully going to the beach or something. We don't think we can post any pictures since we do not have a cord for the camera to connect to the computer. We do have a way to connect the video, but not all the hotels will allow us to connect our video camera to the computer, so we will have to see. Hope all is well with all our friends and family. Ciao for now!! Time for some sleep!

Glad you are having adventures already! We are all in Idaho now and it is so beautiful here. There is a picture on our blog if you want to see our cabin - it is surrounded by mountains. But we really are in the middle of nowhere! The wedding is tomorrow so check back for pictures soon. Love you!

Glad to hear that you have arrived safely. Rachael and I are sitting in her living room reading your first adventures. We are pretending to be there with you. Maybe we will photoshop ourselves into one of your picures upon your return. :)

Totally insane. I love it! Joel never would have allowed me to stop at the coney island, I would have had to starve. Sad you can't post pictures. We'll have to see them when you get back.
