Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello

Ciao Amici,

Our first day was beautiful. We got up and had a wonderful breakfast on the terrace of the hotel. Very yummy pastries and cappucino, fruit, and fresh squeezed orange juice. We bought a couple bus tickets and headed to the bus stop outside the hotel. We started our day a little bit confused about the bus. We ended up waiting for about 1 and a half hours until finally getting on the bus for Positano. Positano has been one of our favorite stops so far. We just walked around and enjoyed the views. Bellisima! We bought some bread, prociutto, provolone cheese, and tomato for sandwiches along with some fruit and ate lunch right on the beach. Then we went for a swim. It felt great since we were soooo hot! After our first gelati in Italia, we then boarded the boat for Amalfi.

In Amalfi, we basically just hiked around the town, even up into the country a little bit further away from the touristy areas. It was beautiful. There are tons of lemon trees with huge lemons growing on them! We hiked up this old winding sidewalk overlooking the lemon groves and just enjoyed the views. We were trying to get to another town that was mentioned in our guide book, but then were not sure if we were going the right way, and were running out of time, so we decided to go back. But the experience was worth the walk.

We then took a bus up to a town about 20 min. away called Ravello. A beautiful town that I have visited before. Because it was getting dark, we were not able to see the entire town, which was a bit of a bummer since I wanted to show Ed how beautiful the rest of it was. We had a nice dinner, however, and enjoyed some lemoncello afterwards. Mamma Anita (the owner of the restaurant) even gave us some yummy tiramisu on the house! Great experience. We also were able to see a wedding in progress at the main church while we were there. I guess I should have known that the experience would not be as grand for Ed since when we arrived, a bird crapped on his head in the main square. I was trying to hold in the laughter while helping him clean it off. Oh, the joys of traveling! He eventually was okay and had a good time there.

I can't wait to see pictures of the lemon trees. A while ago, I read "Driving Over Lemons: An Optimist in Spain" by Chris Stewart and ever since then I've wanted to see lemon trees...I'm guessing that they're not all that different from those in Spain. :)
